Would you like to explore the horizons of your years from your 50s onward? Would you like to be supported to think about the potential jobs and risks, possibilities and opportunities, as ageing becomes a prospect?  Bob Dick and Mary Maher are excited to offer a short course exploring the notion of ageing, of 'retirement' (or not), and of taking ownership of how we live out our later years.

This workshop is for you if you're in your 50s or later and asking yourself any of the following questions:

  • What next? — What transitions am I likely to face in the near or intermediate future?
  • What's possible? — what range of options do I have as I plan the next phase of my life?
  • What do I want and how do I get there? — what is my pathway and the steps to make changes?
  • We'll help you develop a personal plan for how you wish to shape your future ... what to retain ... what to leave behind ... what to pursue.

    Scope

"We are the stories we tell ourselves" says Shekhar Kapur, film director. Using story based approaches we'll explore ...

  • How you chose to look at transitioning now
  • Turning points and milestones in your life so far
  • The future you aspire to, and other possible futures
  • The various pathways to your chosen future
  • The skills to go on that journey, and
  • The first few steps.
  • Outline

The course's process will be a blend of individual reflection and then discussion in very small groups, readings, dreaming, drawing on models and examples, and exploring past and future pathways.

    Day 1, Saturday 17 March, 2012

  • Your story so far, your past, insights about turning points and preferences
  • Visioning possibilities and defining your aspirations
  • Day 2, Sunday 18 March, 2012

  • The pathway, the steps, the skills and the contingencies
